As in all of the other installments, DJ Fundi has combed through his vast Purple Vault in search of rare remixes, B-sides, obscure cassingle tracks and a bunch of under-appreciated songs from mostly-forgotten records. This mix brings back in to the light a number of heavy cuts from the Batman soundtrack, Musicology, New Power Soul and others. I set out to make a mix of my favorite Prince songs in 2009 -- that initiative didn’t end until this Mix #5 three years later. Its been a labor of love for sure, and a great way to rediscover all of the funky gems from Prince’s 25+ year career and share them with you!

Chiron Transmission 1 : Golgotha

Greetings from the friendly Burners here at Destination Burning Man, and welcome to the latest mix from DJ Playaduster: "Chiron Transmissions 1 : Golgotha." Much of this podcast is shrouded in mystery and codes, but it appears to be a missive sent from the outer fringes of our solar system, a musical message that originates from the proto-comet Chiron.
Discovered in 1977 in its eccentric orbit between Saturn and Uranus, Chiron is known in some circles as the "Rainbow Bridge" or "Wounded Healer," a humble, benevolent guide that can assist humans by keeping us moving forward on our proper spiritual paths. In early February 2011, Chiron entered the watery realm of Pisces, activating the pure power of potential, the manifestation of the unconscious and transformative healing through (re)union with the divine.
The frequencies found in this podcast are believed to have originated from Chiron, with DJ Playaduster serving as a musical midwife in order that they be perceived by the human ear and widely disseminated through our dBM channels.
Contributing artists include Bill Laswell, Rena Jones, Phaelah, Tipper, Heyoka, James Blake, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, DJ/rupture, Kim Hiorthoy, Ezekiel Honig, Yo-Yo Ma, Shackleton, PantyRaid and Thriftworks, with vocal musings from Joni Mitchell, Timothy Leary, Hekter McElliott, Pema Chodron and the Tangerines.

We're still puzzling over this one. Let us know how it hits you and what you perceive at gmail@destinationburningman.com or facebook.com/destinationBM

Our Love is Our Power

A mix of new soul, r&b love and loose-limbed funk, inspired and informed by my recent discovery of the musician Jamie Woon. Jeremy Sole dropped Woon's track "Lady Luck" on his KCRW show a couple of weeks ago, and I've been rocking it on the headphones every day since. I built this mix around 3 Jamie Woon tracks that I love, and they appear at the beginning, middle and end. Supporting the mood are jams by Raphael Saadiq, Digable Planets, Sade, Aloe Blacc, The Bees, Erykah Badu, Jamie Lidell, Lauryn Hill, The Roots, Andreya Triani, Galactic, Pharcyde and the Spinners. DIG IT Y'ALL!

Purple Reign IV : Prince Tribute Mix

REPOSTED IN HONOR OF THE PURPLE ONE'S PASSING RIP PRN xoxo

The fourth (of five) installment in the Podcast Cafe’s Purple Reign musical mix tribute series to Prince opens up with an abstract funk-jazz track from his obscure “Xpectations” album, then segues in to the start-stop funk of “Dance On” from “Lovesexy” and a remix of “Irresistible Bitch.” It’s a promising start and lets the listener know right away that they are in the hands of a Prince master archivist and mixmaster supreme. This isn’t any kind of Greatest Hits compilation -- expect rare tracks, remixes, B-sides and other surprises that range the entire 30-some years of the Purple One’s extravagant career.

Other tracks along the way include “Call My Name,” “Raspberry Beret,” “Hot Thing,” “Let’s Pretend We’re Married,” “Thieves in the Temple,” “Lemon Crush,” “New Power Generation,” “Joy in Repetition,” “The Beautiful Ones,” “Rainbow Children,” “Private Joy,” “Paisley Park,” Do Me, Baby” and “Positivity.”

LOVENESS : Got Found? (Part 2)

We're back on the playa and it's late in the week -- things are moving in synchronicity through deep cosmic channels, new friends have been made, sleep is an afterthought, everything is irreversibly dusty and you love it all. The music you hear throughout the city at night is vibrating through your bass chakras and you don't know where the DJ ends and you begin anymore. In this interpretation, Beats Antique, R/D, Pretty Lights, Kid Kudi and others represent this disorienting but beautiful freakbeat madness.

If you've met a special someone during the week, things may be getting impossibly romantic as the week nears its crescendo. This mix reflects that by veering in to a Tanjalove-inspired pocket of funk and soul healing, grooves that both reflect and enhance the love that is filling your heart to overflowing: "Erotic City", "Take My Heart (You Can Have It)", "Simply Beautiful", "Love to Love You Baby", "You Make Me Smile" and "Sexual Healing." Heavy stuff, for sure, but that's how it is.

On Saturday, the Man falls right around the time that your last bit of protective armor, fear & sadness fall away, and you give in to full
Loveness. A mobile soundsystem, crowned with a glowing, beating heart, plays "Love is in the Air" at the exact moment as the sun rises over the eastern horizon on Sunday morning. Bliss reigns, friends swirl, mimosas bubble, hearts swell and you dissolve in to sunlight with your dusty Beloved in your arms.

Sunday night the Temple is set ablaze and there is
culmination. Sade returns with another take on "Soldier of Love" to show you how far you and your wounded heart have traveled through the week; The Cinematic Orchestra reprises your theme song, "To Build a Home"; Bassnectar & Nelly Furtado conclude the entire affair with a wise reminder: "And I say follow me, follow me, follow me / Down, down, down, down / 'Til you see all my dreams / Not everything in this magical world / is quite what it seems."

Namaste, and thanks for listening. Yours in
LOVENESS, DJ Playaduster
