Love is the Future: 2015 Favorites

101-Pluto-2015Favs_opt

It's that time of the year again when DJ Fundi goes digging through the past 12 months of music to find, then mix, the best 2015 had to offer. It was a shitty year in many ways: Paris, San Bernadino, Lebanon, refugee crisis, drought & wildfires, melting ice sheets, the murder of Cecil the Lion, Donald Trump. Luckily we have the balm of music to soothe our souls and take us away to our happy place, and this past year offered up a very wide variety of amazing releases. Sit back, put your feet up, nurse your hot toddy and escape in to this 90-minute mix made lovingly by the hands and heart of your friends at the Podcast Cafe...

El Blanco Chango

99-white-mix-lg

Never mind the graphic ~ it's our 100th episode!! I typed the color-word "White" in to my iTunes and several dozens songs came up. I made an hour+ music mix from these options, enjoying the random constraints as I attempted to craft an audio journey for myself and for you too. It helped me to dig deeper in to my vaults!

episode #100! // Bill Frisell "White Fang" / Wilco "The Lonely 1" (White Version) / Parquet Courts "Black and White" / The Heptones "Choice of Black and White" / Gillian Welch "Six White Horses" / Doc Watson "Whitehouse Blues" / Elliott Smith "Bled White" / Morphine "Honey White" / The Field "Then It's White" / Bluetech "White Magnesia" / Pantha du Prince "White Out" / Thriftworks "Pearly Whites" / Fleet Foxes "White Winter Hymnal" / Neil Young + Crazy Horse "White Line" / Johnny Cash "Six White Horses" / Sturgill Simpson "Long White Line" / Iron & Wine "White Tooth Man" / The Whites "Keep on the Sunny Side" \\

Rain Return

It's been a very interesting week here in the Pacific Northwest, home of the Podcast Cafe : raging wildfires, air full of smoke and ash, then a giant storm on the day of the Full Moon bringing torrential rains and winds strong enough to topple trees and knock out power at the cafe. In the midst of all this elemental power, raw force of nature and dramatic upheaval, we lit some candles, opened the cafe to our neighbors and spun out this nearly-2-hour mix of newish music that has been tickling our earholes here in late Summer. It is, mind you, our 99th episode!

"Rain Return" features a bunch of cafe regulars like Wilco, Beck, Built to Spill, Father John, Beirut, Kurt Vile and Laura Marling, while also bringing is some new friends that we'd love for you to meet, like Courtney Barnett, Yaima, SaQi, Hot Chip, Subaqueous and Pepper Proud. DJ Fundi gets things started off, while DJ Playaduster steps in midway through to blend in some new, groovy sounds from the world of electronica and sacred bass music, before handing back to Fundi to wrap things up and tuck us in. The journey ends with a fitting track, "The Long Awaited Rains....."

Hope y'all enjoy and thanks for dropping by the Podcast Cafe!

Snow Moon in Mossland: new music at the end of winter

Ever so subtly, the seasons are shifting: days grow longer, buds swell on the branch, frogsong reverberates through the evening, and we're not building as many fires for warmth here at the Podcast Cafe. DJ Fundi has gathered up a bushel of very fresh new music and mixed it up, just for
you. This mix was created on the February 4th full moon - the "Snow Moon." Many of these tracks are singles from forthcoming albums we are very much looking forward to, including new music from Modest Mouse (two new tracks bookend this journey), Death Cab and Laura Marling; others are from albums just released, like Father John, Bjork, D'angelo; and finally, the rest are from some of the best albums released in 2014, many of which we featured in our last podcast "'Cause You Had Taste: 2014 Favorites." Enjoy!
